Though the Supreme Court of India finally came to a conclusion where Aadhar card is now not mandatory for many things including getting new sim cards, appear in exams, etc. But still, it remains as an important document for many reasons. But when we use it anywhere, our 12 digit Aadhar number gets disclosed which is something which no one want. Later UIDAI also introduced eAadhaaar to make it digital document. But still, the problem of disclosing the Aadhar number was unsolved. But now, finally, UIDAI has recently introduced a new thing called Masked Aadhar which will help users to keep their Aadhar number private when using it.
Though it’s not mandatory, a lot of people including me have already linked Aadhar number with important services such as telecom operator or mobile number and banking services. So, disclosing the Aadhar number to anyone else can be very risky as it can be misused by others who know your 12 digit Aadhar number. Your bank can also be robbed for this.
That’s why the Unique Identification Authority of India aka UIDAI has recently twitted from their official Twitter handle about the launch of a new concept called Masked Aadhar which can protect our Aadhar number from disclosing while using it for various purposes.
What is Masked Aadhar?
A few months ago, UIDAI introduced eAadhar, which is actually the digital version of our physical Aadhar card which is downloadable, password protected and digitally signed by UIDAI itself. It has the same value as the physical card, and it can be used for all purposes. It also includes the 12 digit Aadhar number and thus the problem of disclosing Aadhar number is still unsolved.
But, now, UIDAI has introduced a new type of e-Aadhar which is known as Masked Aadhar. Here the full Aadhar number of the users will not be mentioned. Instead, only the last 4 digits of the Aadhar card number will be available. Though the other information will be same like before, it will make sure that when you use this for any purpose, your actual Aadhar Card number remains private which will prevent any misuse of your Aadhar number. Other details which will be available in the Masked Aadhar card are demographic info, photograph and smart QR code.
